CYCLIST REACHES 100

CYCLIST REACHES 100

A French centenarian has completed a 100-kilometer bicycle ride in Lyon, France.
Former firefighter Robert Marchand waited until his 60s to get serious about cycling. Now, nearly four decades later, he set a new world record.
He completed 300 laps of a track without stopping and covered the 100-kilometer distance in four hours, 17 minutes, and 27 seconds. Sports scientists and cycling enthusiasts applauded as he crossed the finish line.

(Robert Marchand)
"What made me suffer the most were my hands and arms — they got full of pins and needles — and my backside. I've only got skin left on there."

The French Cycling Federation says it will ask for the record to be registered with the international cycling association as the fastest time for a 100-year-old man.
